Chinook was developed by the U.S.D.A. breeding program in Washington State and released in 1985 as a high alpha acids variety. Chinook takes its name from a Native American tribe indigenous to the region around Washington. Chinook pedigree is a cross between Petham Golding and a high alpha USDA male. In recent years, Chinook has found favour as a dual purpose hop in the craft brewing community as a result of its spice and pine aroma characteristics.
