The Tax Man Cometh (Again)...The February 1st CPI increase has officially taken effect, marking the 78th increase in spirits excise since 1983. Here’s the breakdown of what you’re now paying in federal tax: Spirits: Increased to $107.99 per Litre of Pure Alcohol (LAL). Packaged Beer (>3.5% ABV): Now $63.75 per LAL. Draught Beer: Remaining frozen at $43.39 per LAL thanks to the ongoing two-year tax freeze. The "Tax Bite" in Reality: A standard 700ml bottle of Bundaberg Rum now carries approx. $33.40 in total tax, while a 24-pack of VB includes roughly $28.90 in excise and GST.
