A few issues with age.

My fermenter is about 5 years old now. 2 issues:
- I think the tap mounting system is a bit flawed. If the tap rubber seal shrinks, which it inevitably does, then it may not seal correctly when in the correct position. Plus, if you rotate the tap beyond its, "correct" position, the rear of the tap starts to push against the flat section at the rear of the thread. Anyway, I learnt this the hard way with the result being that the flat section developed a crack and a subsequent crack appeared around the thread itself. So, note to self - if the tap starts to leak when in its correct position, just replace the rubber seal (hopefully these wouldn't be hard to source),
- the moulding method seems to leave quite a few bits of plastic hanging around, and some of these are such that it's hard to clean any gunk around them. Obviously a much more expensive metal (or higher grade plastic?) drum wouldn't have this issue.

Anyway, I may try and glue up the cracked tap mount, but I think I'm pushing my luck a bit. I'll look around at a higher quality fermenter next time.

Hi Stuart,
Tanks again for your valued review after your brew happy. Clearly some opportunity for improvement there. Tanks for that and we will pass the feedback onto our supply partner. We are seeing a lot of brewers move away from fermenters with taps to avoid these issues and infections in the groves. Something to think and drink about? cheers #brewhappy always

Well made barrel

Solid barrel perfect for fermenting wash for gin. The pre drilled holes for tap and airlock are a great addition with these items also available for purchase through the store. The lid seals well to keep any curious critters from having a taste during fermenation.

Tanks Chelsea,
Glad to see the fermenters are doing the job for you and keeping out the unwanted and uninvited guests. Ferment Fast and Happy and Disitil Safely always cheers!
