Blessed - April 2020 - BeerCo Brewing and Distilling News

Blessed are the Homemakers

Wow! Didn't see that coming...what a crazy month just been...as the world goes into #CoVid-19 #Lockdown Home Brewers and Distillers rise up to become the glue that keeps community alive!  Living local matters and little drops of kindness on neighbours doors from letters to food to beer and good spirit is our new social outing as part of our daily exercise.  Keep healthy, stay positive and do check in on your neighbours and drop off some of your amazing brews and good spirit to keep them smiling in these tough times.

Our collective hearts bleed for Craft Brewers and Distillers right now who are doing it beery tough with Taprooms and Tasting Rooms and the entire on-premise CLOSED.  The amazing ability of everyone to innovate and pivot from distilling spirits to making hand sanitizer or turn a taproom into a drive through Bottlo is truly fantastic to witness.  Be sure if you're not brewing or distilling your own at the moment that you're supporting your local independent craft brewers and distillers so they are there for us all when we get back to our normal busy working and socialising lives.

We are still #ShippingIt happy at BeerCo.com.au throughout #CoVid-19 #Lockdown and please there are #NoLocalPickups for your health and safety and ours.  Please do the right thing, stay at home and let our fantastic logistics partners get your precious brewing and distilling supplies to you safely and swiftly.  Allow a little longer in your brewing and distilling planning as deliveries might be a little slower during the CoVid-19 Lockdown.

A magical thing happens when amino acids and reducing sugars combine at critical temperatures; the Maillard reaction. Starting with higher protein spring barley we germinate to higher levels of modification then adjust early kilning conditions to utilise the malt enzymes to hydrolyse protein and convert starch in sugars. Finally, a long drying phase with a higher temperature results in the Maillard reaction taking place to produce pronounced rich malt, freshly baked bread crust and the characteristic Munich bite at the back of the palate.

UniGrain Rolled Barley is prepared by rolling barley grains that have been pearled. UniGrain Rolled or Flaked Barley is a natural grain sourced and grown in Australia.

Addition of Flaked Barley will promote head retention and add body to the finished beer. Rolled Barley does not require milling before being added to the mash.

This product is fresh-smelling with no signs of scorching and free from any extraneous material.

Flaked Barley is unmalted, steam, and dried barley that has been rolled into flat flakes. It imparts a rich, grainy flavor to beer and is used in many stouts, particularly Irish stouts, enhancing head formation and foam stability.

Product of Australia. Australian Grown and Milled by UniGrain.
